Jim is a highly experienced lawyer whose career spans more than 42 years in legal practice. Jim was admitted as an Australian Lawyer in 1983 and became a principal lawyer in 1989. He has continued to act as a principal lawyer since that time.

Over the course of his career, Jim has worked across a range of legal practices in Melbourne of varying sizes. In 2005, he established his own legal practice, which he successfully operated for more than 20 years, building strong and lasting relationships with his clients and the broader business community.

As of March 2026, Jim is proud to join his son, John Mapleston, and the team at TM Collins Law, where he brings a wealth of knowledge and practical legal experience to the firm.

Jim has significant experience in commercial disputes, general commercial advisory and transactions, family law, and wills and estates. He is known for his practical and pragmatic approach to legal problems and is committed to assisting clients in resolving their matters in the most effective and cost-efficient way possible.
